Rest and Recovery
After a fall and winter jam-packed with fundraising deadlines, community events, and holiday festivities, the Commune humans were prepared for a quiet beginning to 2026. Unfortunately, 2026 has not been a quiet year. Early in January, Ivy was hospitalized for a hypoglycemic crisis. She has recovered well, but it meant a few sleepless nights for her humans.
February was difficult. In one week, we said goodbye to four amazing cats. Czar died from complications of diabetes, Ash surrendered to heartworms, Trooper passed unexpectedly from unknown causes, and Mystara, a feral, passed away from old age. Losing any member of the Commune crew is emotional, but when the blows come so close together, it is hard to catch our breath. So this newsletter will be brief as the Commune humans take time to rest and recover, and cuddle the cats in our care.
We are comforted to know that each of these losses is felt by our incredible community of supporters, to know we do not grieve alone. You give us the courage on difficult days to love these gentle souls when the time they have is unknown to us.
Thank you for making their lives possible.
