Less than a week after Aries was found the Commune came to the rescue of four orphan kittens in a high euthanasia shelter. Only a few weeks old, the kittens grew strong in foster care, eventually Sooty and Flame were adopted; Ash had displayed problems with his feet as a kitten and he and Lumi stayed at the Commune. When Lumiere and his siblings were first brought to the Commune they lived in a kitten enclosure. Each time Matt went to feed them Lumiere would scale the sides of the cage and attempt to leap onto Matt. Lumiere became a personal pet with a special bond with Matt, they loved to snuggle with Lumiere’s face buried in Matt’s beard.

Eventually Matt picked him up and the rest is history. He and Matt bonded like no other. He was a very playful boy and engaged in chase play with Natasha (the Bengal), Ash, Calvin, Aries and several other cats. His coat was very fine and his tail extremely fluffy. He required regular brushing to remove twigs and leaves from his belly and tail. Lumiere loved to sleep on Matt’s chest when he is sitting in front of his computer, going completely limp and flopping unceremoniously if Matt moved his arms.

Sometimes even when we love a cat the perfect home comes along. Over time Lumiere bonded with Commune volunteer all-star Carolina leading to his adoption in 2024. He remains a world champion snuggler.
